Changing the world

Since I started keeping up with this blog and the community of people who contribute, I have been trying to think of something meaningful to add. Something to share or inspire. The idea finally hit: it's called Ivy's Day.
Here's the plan in its infancy. As others read and come up with ideas, I hope you will share. Basically, Ivy is a girl with a passion to make the world a better place. Any of us who know her know the impact her smile, her personality and spirit have on us. She makes us better. But she wants more; to make this whole world better. She's into animal rights, "green" living, alternative fuels.....you name it. And what does she now have with all of us? A captive audience of people brought together as one community, joined by the common strand of Ivy. She has a platform from which to share her ideas and all of us assembled.
And so on to Ivy's Day. I propose that all who choose to participate look at their lives and find one or more things that we can do to make the earth a better place (see my list of Ivy inspired items at the end). Then, commit to doing it. On October 17th (Ivy's Bday), we either put our commitment on this blog or, looking to next year, write what we have done and how it has effected our lives. Let it be Ivy inspired and then write to her to tell her how you have helped her change the world. Each year we can do something more and maybe share the idea with others.
Wouldn't it by cool for us all to see Ivy as a stone dropped into a still pond and then we are the ripples created by her simple actions? So how can you help Ivy make the world a better place?
A list of Ivy inspired actions:
recycle more
convert to alternative fuels
mentor a child
eat less or no meat
use non animal tested cosmetics
use biodegradable products/soaps/cleaners
adopt an animal
abstain from dissecting animals
spend time with an elderly person
give money to a food bank or other responsible aid organization

Be creative. Do it for Ivy, for the world and for yourself.

You put into words what I've been trying to form in my head. Thank You! How ivy has the desire to change the world for the better. Ivy is such an inspiration to everyone and so down to earth at the same time. What she wants to do to help animals and the invironment just comes so naturally to her that it's not hard for her to talk about it and inspire other people to change. She sees something that needs to change and she does whatever she can to help make that change. She isn't afraid to get involved and she isn't afraid of the ridicule it might bring because she knows she's doing the right thing!
I have become a 100% vegetarian because Ivy showed me what I didn't want to acknowledge...what happens to animals before they end up on our Table. I was 90% vegi before but she put me over the edge.
I got to know Ivy through Melinda and our mutual passion for rescuing and rehabbing bats and I'm so thankful for that.
I do recycle and do everything I can think of to help the environment and of course I share her & Melinda's love for all of God's creatures. (I'm one of those people who take spiders outside instead of killing them). I add my name to petitions and write my state leaders to help the animals and encourage them to pass laws to right all the wrongs that people are doing to our beautiful environment, wolves, buffalo, puppy mills, and any kind of cruelty to any animal as well as people.
So I plan to rev up my efforts to get other people to do all these things that will make Ivy happy!

We all need to do our part to take over for Ivy while she is getting well.
I know I was supposed to do this on Oct 17th, but I'll write more then. sending my love to Ivy and Melinda and the rest of the family.
